  1. @Larue77 Most California counties have learned to pull things off of taxes and put them in as "fees" to bypass Prop 13. LA county calls them "direct assessments". They include, flood control, vector control, stormwater utility, sewer, streetlights, open space preserve, trauma and emergency services, etc. etc. Do you pay property taxes in California? I would not say my tax bill has an excessive number of bonds. Bonds are specifically noted on the tax bill as voted indebtedness and the vast majority of what I pay is not a bond. The voted indebtedness added up to $550 on my 2019 tax bill. My 1% general tax levy was $3129. Many Oregon counties levy around 1.2% to 1.4% of "assessed value", which is about 70% of the purchase price. Many things I pay as "fees" are things that my relatives in Michigan have included in their taxes. The effective property tax rate you're googling understates drastically what land owning californians pay.
